Dressage Rally 2007

This year the Dressage Rally was held at the Buckeye Horse Park. There were many teams and they all did great. It was hosted by Lost Hounds Pony Club and we should all give them a pat on the back for a job well done. We had 13 teams this year. There were seven musical freestyles that turned out fantastic. Everybody liked Abe Rastkar, the HM Chief, and Dave Wyatt the HMO.

There were seven qualifiers as well. Four made the team to go to this year’s Dressage Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. They are Danielle Giovannagelo, Natalie Vukmer, Ariel Wyatt and Andy Wyatt. Congratulations to them all.

Championships - Be Prepared

There are still rooms available in Lexington for competitors and supporters for the 2007 USPC Championships. We've compiled a list of reminders too, so you and your horse can have a fun and safe time.

We're looking forward to seeing you all there!

Tetrathlon 2007

We are pleased to announce that this year's tetrathlon will be really exciting and a little different. We will be welcoming quite a few kids from out of region to the rally, many of you remember Reid and Jenkins Dove from Virginia. They have already qualified for championships but are returning to the Tri State for the fun and will be competing as regular participants! So we will scramble them on to teams with boys.

Also, we are going to have more fun than we usually do. We will have a special guest who will be an exhibition competitor. Sam Sacksen (US Olympic Pentathlon Team) will be coming from the World Cup in Rome. He will be participating in all phases of our rally along with the rally kids. His score will be posted but not count...it is just for fun! And last but not least Ben Sacksen (pentathlete) will also be helping with the rally and give an exhibition in the shooting and fencing. The boys will also be coaching anyone who wants the help and encouraging all!

Horse Management Update

With three of the five 2007 rallies in the books, it is a good time to assess the horse management program in the Tri-State Region so far this year.

As you know, the USPC national office rolled out the “New Face of Horse Management” program at the annual meeting in Portland in January. For the first time, we have an HM Handbook that reflects the standards of the organization. There are few new rules, several new forms, and a new approach to HM judging.

Eventing: Preventing Lameness

Eventing (horse trials) combines dressage, show jumping, and cross-country, together with steeplechase and roads and tracks phases in a three-day event. The event horse must primarily be a brave, clever, bold jumper cross-country, with scope and speed.

However, in modern day competition this is not sufficient to excel, and the horse must also have reasonably athletic paces and a temperament that can be trained for dressage, combined ideally with an ability to show jump with care.

Pentathlon in USPC

Today in our country and in Pony Club many if not most kids are multi sported. Many are on soccer, volleyball, track and X-C and swim teams etc or have been. Many enjoy the idea of the accuracy and steadiness involved in a target sport, (like the shoot in tetrathlon) and many are attracted to the idea and romance of fencing.

There is one competition which includes five sports and is popular world wide. At the 2006 Olympic Games in Athens Greece, the Modern Pentathlon had the highest attendance and was the only sold out event.
